The Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento, the Cien Amigos civic group and the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California, with the support of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME), are pleased to announce the Cien Amigos IME Scholarship Fund to encourage the educational success of Mexican-origin and Latino students in California.

 

The Cien Amigos-IME Scholarship Committee will accept applications for 2016 College Scholarships and High School Grants beginning March 1, 2016. Deadline for applications is May 31, 2016.

 

Terms and Eligibility Requirements

 

College/University Scholarships

The Cien Amigos-IME Scholarship Fund will award one-time scholarships to individuals of $1,000 dollars each, for enrollment in Fall Semester 2016. In order to be eligible to apply for a College Scholarship you must:

 

1. Be a College/University undergraduate student or a High School senior with a College/University letter of acceptance.

2. Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher (weighted/cumulative).

3. Comply with the residence requirement, within the Northern California eligible counties*, based on only one of the following:

 

·          Applicant must live/study High School/University/College within eligible counties.

·          University/College must be located within eligible counties.

·          Applicant’s parents must live within eligible counties.

 

4. Provide a copy of the following required documents:

 

a)     For undergraduate students: College/University transcript or enrollment verification letter with cumulative GPA stated. For High School (HS) senior: HS transcript with weighted GPA stated.

b)     For HS seniors: official documentation of acceptance to a higher education institution.

c)     For undergraduate students and HS seniors: documentation that proves compliance with the residence requirement, in the case that a) or b) are out the eligible counties.

d)     For undergraduate students and HS seniors: 500-word-maximum essay describing your personal situation, the reasons you are pursuing higher education, and the ways in which you plan to use your education for the benefit of your community.

 

AB 540 students and women pursuing STEAM education are encouraged to apply.

 

* Eligible counties: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Joaquín, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Solano, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Tuolumne, Yolo and Yuba.

High School Grants

The Cien Amigos-IME Scholarship Fund will award one-time grants of $300 dollars each, for students enrolled in the 11th grade in a California High School. In order to be eligible to apply for a High School Grant you must:

 

1. Be a High School JUNIOR student who requires financial support to submit College applications, buy SAT materials, pay College Board enrollments or take preparatory courses to enter College.

2. Have a High School Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher (weighted).

3. Comply with the residence requirement, within the Northern California eligible counties*, based on only one of the following:

 

·          Applicant must live/study within eligible counties.

·          High School must be located within eligible counties.

·          Applicant’s parents must live within eligible counties.

 

4. Provide the following required documents:

 

a)     Transcript document or enrollment verification letter with weighted GPA stated and the address of the high school.

b)     Document that proves compliance with the residence requirement, in the case that a) is out the eligible counties.

c)     A 350-word-maximum essay describing your personal situation (family, community, school), and how it relates to your educational plans for the future.

 

Application Instructions

 

I.       Applications for the scholarships will be online only, the link for the application form will be published on this website.

II.      Applications will be open on March 1st, 2016.

III.     The application deadline will be May 31st, 2016, at 11:59 pm.

IV.     All supporting documents are to be scanned by each applicant and uploaded at the application website, in a PDF or JPEG format.

V.      All incomplete applications will be discarded (make sure you upload every document needed -proof of enrollment with GPA, proof of residence, essay).

 

Grantees’ names will be released on June 30th, 2016, at this website and will be notified by the Cien Amigos IME Scholarship Committee.

 

Note: Application to this scholarship program does not guarantee the award of a scholarship. Applicants will be screened according to eligibility and availability of funds.
