Chief Building Engineer

Schedule: Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Onsite (Free parking available)
Pay: 90-100K
Interview Process:

Previous experience as a Chief Engineer, in management, or within higher education environments is highly valued.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Engineer to play a critical role in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex facility systems. This position requires strong technical expertise in at least one core trade—such as Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing/Piping, or Central Utility Plant Operations—along with the versatility to support multiple systems across the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, monitor, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, fire/life safety, furniture, and control systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards.

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, including cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and replacing components to optimize HVAC and related system performance.

  • Record system readings, evaluate performance, and make necessary adjustments to ensure reliable operation.

  • Oversee facility services, including preventive maintenance programs, inventory control, purchasing, and coordination of contracted maintenance.

  • Monitor quality, scope, and pricing of work performed by external contractors.

  • Maintain compliance with safety policies, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.

  • Promote a clean, safe, and organized work environment; identify safety hazards and recommend corrective actions.

  • Conduct periodic audits of tools and instrumentation to ensure readiness and accuracy.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience.

  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems.

  • Strong ability to analyze mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, identify malfunctions, and implement effective corrective actions.

  • EPA 608 Type II Certification.

  • Working knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license is not required for this role.
