Overview

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Company Manager is a collaborator and thought partner to the Artistic Administrator that supports the organizations compliance efforts for all artists (actors, crew, and creative personnel) as well as some production-related contracted employees. This role is responsible for the administration and implementation of company management systems, processes, and activities, including but not limited to coordinating travel, housing, managing contracts, and daily artist support.

Responsibilities

  • Drives IDEA to Action platform by engaging in committees, events, training, and other initiatives as needed.
  • Models CSTs core values of service, ingenuity, and collaboration as well as its customer service ethos.
  • Champions the organizations commitment to a respectful, inclusive, and equitable workplace.
  • Schedule, track, and facilitate ongoing activities such as onboarding, offboarding, and artist orientation (IDEA, anti-harassment, emergency planning, safety training).
  • Coordinate and manage artist injury, health concerns, and workers compensation claims including injury care, management, and prevention.
  • Serve as a primary resource for artist questions, inquiries, concerns, or needs with the knowledge of where to direct or how to solve.
  • Edit and maintain artist content including bios, headshots, Paycom accounts, and Access database.

Company Management Specific Duties

  • Oversee the welcoming, onboarding, orientation, and daily operations and needs of the production companies for both produced and presented work.
  • Serve as an HR partner for Company Management and Artistic operations ensuring compliance in areas of hiring, onboarding, employee relations, workplace accidents/incidents, training, and offboarding. As well as compliance with creatives CBAs.
  • Assist in the execution of AEA and NON-union contracts and employment agreements for all actors and stage managers in consultation with the Artistic Administrator.
  • Managing a budget and maintaining accurate accounting spreadsheets
  • Coordinate and book artist/staff travel, housing, transport, and manage ongoing needs and requests associated with it.
  • Coordinate planning for touring companies, including travel, housing, and per diems in consultation with the Artistic Administrator.
  • Coordinate artist obligations to various CST departments including meet and greets, talk backs & autograph signings, PR interviews and captures, production b-roll, filming and archives, access programming, and off-site engagements.
  • Assist with updates to all show related paperwork and set up payroll and production google folders prior to first rehearsal of all productions.
  • Facilitate all aspects of onboarding and offboarding for company management.
  • Support artist hospitality and event planning including Opening and Closing day activities and events.
  • Assist in preparation of Artist payroll, reimbursements/deductions, agent commissions, and sending the AEA payroll reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned

Addtional Duties

  • Assist in creating company management strategies and initiatives.
  • In conjunction with the Box Office, managing artist, staff, and external partner ticketing needs and troubleshoot questions and concerns.
  • Tour with national/international tours as needed.
  • Manage CST company vehicle.
  • Report on status and state of the company of artists around all productions.
  • Guide all emergency & safety tours of theater spaces.
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with hotel & housing partners.
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with company managers from other arts organizations across the country and internationally.

Work Environment

  • Work hours are 9AM-5PM, Monday through Friday
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday hours will be necessary.
  • Worksites are primarily at the CST facilities on Navy Pier in Chicago, IL but will at times work in other locations such as the City Parks, off-site performance venues, and other locations that production work may occur.
  • Willingness to shift plans and priorities with little or no notice.

Physical Demand

  • Ability to lift to 50lbs.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer (view screen and traditional keyboard) for extended periods of time.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Paycom
  • Bachelors degree with major in theater, business, or hospitality preferred.

Additional Education and Experience

  • Proficiency with Precoro welcomed.
  • Experience with AEA contracting including CAT, TYA, and LORT a plus.
  • Familiarity with Tessitura
