Job Description

Marine Electrician

Mills Marine and Ship Repair, LLC (Mills Marine) is currently seeking an individual to support Touch Labor at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY).


Clearance Requirement:

Must be a US citizen with a DOD final Secret security clearance.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1. Have the ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints.

2. Be knowledgeable in the operation of powered machinery/tooling/equipment relevant to trade skills.

3. Be knowledgeable in the use of precision measuring instruments normally associated with cognizant shipyard trades.

4. Be familiar with materials associated with the ship repair industry.

5. Have the ability to recognize working conditions or use of materials that require initiation of safety precautions and have the PPE for said conditions or materials.

6. Have working knowledge on how to read and understand the information provided in a SDS (Safety Data Sheet).

7. Be qualified and experienced at working in confined spaces (e.g. tanks, voids or stowage).

8. Be qualified to wear safety harnesses and work from scaffolds or platforms where drop off will be greater than five (5) feet.


9. Employee will need to be able to lift, carry and set up installations of material and equipment to the work site.

Education:

The Marine Electrician position requires a minimum of a high school diploma and/or successful completion of a related trade or industrial school.


Experience:

The Marine Electrician position requires a minimum of four (4) years of verifiable experience in the assigned trade in an industrial environment i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair or nuclear power plants, which shall include a minimum of two (2) years' work experience on U.S. Navy ships/vessels.


Trade Training:

Completed a formal course of study in the assigned trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program.


Must be trained in typical trade related precision measurement instruments, such as electrical meters; trained in electrical safety in the workplace standards per National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E; and trained and experienced in working with schematics and technical drawings.


Trade Specific Technical Standards: MIL-STD-2003, MIL-STD-1310H, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E Required Trade Training: Electrical Systems General Inspections and Testing Techniques, Electrical Safety, Lockwire, Lock tabs and Locking Cables, Lockout/Tagout Procedures and Ship and Equipment Grounding.


Trade Skills:

1. Capable and knowledgeable of troubleshooting/testing various electrical, systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment, onboard Navy ships/vessels to include submarines and/or ship's components and able to document test requirements.

2. Knowledge and ability to proficiently use various types of electrical and electronic measuring devices that include voltmeters, amp meters, ohmmeters, power analyzers, as well as possess the ability and knowledge to disconnect /reconnect and perform Initial Voltage Verification of electrical equipment. a

3. Working knowledge of electrical trade mathematics and formulas in order to calculate voltage, amperes and resistance requirements and to determine size and types of material, including controls, switches, distribution panels, fuses, cable and conduit size when determining appropriate power source.

4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals, make working diagrams, circuits, electrical systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment.

5. Be familiar with shipboard systems operating requirements, applicable professional/trade standards and practices in a Shipyard or Marine industrial facility environments.
