JW Michaels is engaged with a high-growth AI-powered platform is seeking a Privacy Counsel to help build and scale a world-class privacy function. You’ll tackle novel technical and legal issues, advise cross-functional teams, and ensure ongoing compliance with global data-protection laws. You’ll be a key partner to Engineering, Product, Trust, Marketing, Compliance and beyond - shaping privacy by design as a business value.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive maturation of the global privacy program: policy development, process improvements and automation.
• Partner with Engineering & Product to embed privacy-by-design into roadmaps and systems.
• Translate complex regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, ISO 27001) into clear, actionable guidance.
• Serve as an escalation point for privacy incidents and coordinate internal responses.
• Update and maintain internal/external privacy documentation (policies, notices, FAQs).
• Review and negotiate customer/vendor contracts with privacy-related terms.
• Represent the company in regulatory, industry, and peer-group forums as needed.

What You’ll Bring

• JD (or foreign equivalent) from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
• Between 5 and 8 years of U.S. privacy/data-protection experience, ideally in both B2C and B2B SaaS environments.
• Deep working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and related global frameworks; bonus for HIPAA, COPPA or FERPA expertise.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, “yes-if…” mindset.
• Proven ability to simplify complex legal concepts for technical and non-legal teams.
• Comfort in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and passion for AI/technology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; team player with a sense of humor.
• Willing to work hard AND HAVE FUN!!

Preferred Candidate Criteria (Please read carefully):

• 3+ years privacy training at an AmLaw100 firm (or top privacy boutique);
• experience inhouse with a major, global SaaS, PaaS, adtech corporation
• CIPP or CIPT certification
